SPOT Meeting Minutes 2009-10-12Present: Jean, Carolynn, Andy, Keith, Anya, Bill, Nancy, Rick, Heidi, Allie- Debrief of OCLC call. "Fairly productive" - but million-dollar question is will they follow through? - NRE OCLC number (one of many OCLC number issues) fix tomorrow morning - Ralph to send message to Anya explaining. - CG fix tomorrow morning too, 5am Eastern time. Next call will be with new product manager? 9:30am every other week on Mondays. John letter! - Robin Murray saw link to letter was public was upset about seeing it publicly available. Amongst membership gained a lot of clout with that letter. Important for members to see that. We need to come up with talking points and specific examples for each of the talking points. Nancy regrets that she can't participate in that conversation especially because she was there in the beginning and remembers asking these questions and OCLC assuring us these things were possible - frustrating because they now seem confused. Carolynne - what surprises her is responses about system stability. Lack of communication - finding out two days later about downtimes. Also she has noticed sharp decline in returnables fill rate through Summit. More work with less staff and more budget cuts. Anya thinks OCLC doesn't really understand the difference between "regular" ILL and "consortial" ILL. Site visits - they already did site visits! Anya and Jennifer visited. Jennifer "gets it" but can't really help. Who can help us? Katie Birch - Ed Davidson - Krista Stark. OCLC expertise is ILL, NOT consortial ILL. When send letter out to consortium? When we get an official response from OCLC. Brief review of circ gateway issues: Patch: They found some slowness in the CPU usage - they are fixing that issue and they assume this will fix the entire thing. However still stuck requests in other queues - Ralph is sending something to Anya today about what to do if there is a temp bib and item record in the system, and what to do if there isn't (re-receive). Nothing we can do with these requests. Part of the problem is that OCLC is getting false positives so they don't know what is broken. When we tell them which ones are broken, they can re-run them. Moral of the story - we have to send in every single transaction that is broken so they can fix it. *** We should send out an informational announcement to summit-circ - OCLC can't fix categories of things, they can only fix individual transactions. Report EVERY transaction. *** *** Next OCLC call - "you need to notify us with the circ gateway is down - and are you going to go in and fix the ones that are stuck? *** Carolynne worried about problem-solving with two updates in one day. New Returned Queues in NRE server Some still not showing up in that queue - are still not getting the ones with ANY action returned - ***Anya to send that back to her. No, we do not like these queues. Any active requests that has any action of "returned." *** OCLC Configuration Module - how to present? Should we use this as an argument for taking availability away? Let's make an argument that we should should "deep link" the catalog but not display availability at all until it works. Make an argument to Summit group about why we should do this - listing the reasons it doesn't work. We're taking it away until it works. Make sure people understand that the configuration module is for WorldCatLocal - not for Summit. Already XORBIS records in our catalogs / can we remove them? These were test records in everyone's system - everybody knew what they were. ***Bill to send something out about how to find the old records in their system and how to purge. Bill to work with Nancy. ***We need to talk to OCLC about when they're going to take records out of NRE. Check in on projects: - Anya almost has communications plan - Newsletter - quarterly. OCLC meeting - next newsletter after that. Heidi to start pulling information together for the newsletter, waiting for more information after big OCLC meeting. Issues with offline circ *** - Need to send out something to group telling them not to use Millenium offline circ ***- Are we using telnet menus for offline circ? Process PC. We are still waiting on one school to list a rep for Summit then Anya will send out lsit. |
