Packaging Tips

Here is a way to pad an ILL bag. Otherwise, use padded envelopes or boxes inside courier bags, for example:

There are times when it is advisable to use additional protection for items being sent via Courier. For example, when it is getting colder or you have multiple types of items in a bag. Colder weather can be hard on plastic containers such as those with CDs and DVDs so you will want to make sure you have added protection so they arrive at their destination safely.

NOTE: If you receive a bag that has been modified to incorporate padding do not remove the padding -- return the bag in the same condition in which it arrived.

In the photos below, we found the Jiffy brand envelope #4 fit the ILL bags perfectly with these modifications:

  Trim any remaining closure flap.
Trim approximately 3/4" from one side -- not end -- of the bag.
Place the modified Jiffy envelope inside the ILL bag.
It fits well and still allows room to close the zipper.
